For my Medicine Dog/Helper & Shadow - Ché - written just a few days ago after one of our late night walks - before knowing it would be one of our last. Ché, you are missed greatly, but your lessons are carried forward, my sweet Boy.

thank you, Sylv. Yep, he's missed incredibly. I just posted this over on facebook about him - so thought I'd post it here, too:
DeleteChé was quite a dog. He arrived in our family just as the Twin Towers came down and the world suddenly amped up in stress and fear and we began to hear the word "terror" regularly. He was a 3 month old, soft as could be, bundle of comfort as he greeted each of my clients that week and throughout the following years. It became one of his jobs to "prep" clients for me - to make them forget their troubles for a moment so I could then use my hands to de-stress and bring some relief. Another of his jobs was as a protector/comforter - watching over our family and property after a group of teenaged boys confusing drama for passion, and reality for video games, opened fire with a sawed off shotgun aimed at my oldest son and three friends hanging out in front of our home -- over a girl! Miraculously, no one was hurt, but the worry and fear were thick around here for months after. He brought comfort and courage. His 3rd job was when he took on becoming my "Furry Nurse" 9 yrs ago. With his incredible sniffing abilities, he was the first to identify something wasn't right with me, attaching himself to my side, knowing on some deep level what would take the doctors another week to diagnose as lymphoma. He remained close at my side since, especially through treatment and relapses. He was an amazing and selfless being who taught me a lot about "helping" being nothing more than simply being present with another in their distress. He embodied the teachings of great spiritual teachers: kindness and being fully present in this moment -- and asked for little in return. He lived fully, happily, and in good spirits right up to the end -- an excellent role model, particularly in the end, living cheerfully despite his own health problems, still with a wag and a smile. I will move forward without him now, sadly, but trying to remember as he did -- to wag more -- and to sniff more -- taking it all in deeply and with joy. XOXO
Ché- you will live in our hearts forever.
